FAQS

What is your turn-around time?

At SDS we will do whatever it takes to meet your deadline and will always strive to finish early. While our average turn-around time is 3 days, we can provide overnight service if necessary. The best thing to do is to contact us ahead of time to discuss your timeframe.

How do you do an earthwork analysis?

We use the AGTEK Earthwork Analysis System, a state-of-the-art earthwork-calculating program which calculates volumes using the AVERAGE END AREA method. We feel it is the most accurate earthwork estimating system available. After all of the elevation information is entered either by digitizing or through existing CAD files, AGTEK makes its calculations by cutting cross sections across the site. The frequency of cross sections cut during the computation varies, but is typically 1500-3000 cross sections computed at an average separation of 0.5 feet.

What do you need in order to do an earthwork analysis or cost estimate?

All we need is a copy of your site and or grading plans in blue print or CAD form and answers to some typical questions such as: What is the existing topsoil depth? Is there rock or unsuitable material on the site? Should we assume topsoil repread in the landscape areas? If so, how much? What pavement section thickness will be used? What section thickness should we assume for the building slabs? If you don’t know the answers to some of these questions, give us a call and we’ll help you determine what are the best assumptions.

How can I get you the information?

There are multiple ways that we can get your plans. If you’re local we’ll send a courier to pick up your plans. If you are not local you can ship your plans to us, or if you plans are available in a CAD file, just e-mail the file to us.

How do I get my results?

All reports are faxed to the client as soon as the work is completed. Usually, within 24 hours the original documents along with the cut/fills are delivered to the client’s office via courier or Federal Express. If timeframe allows, the original documents and cut/fills will be mailed to you.

How much does an earthwork analysis cost?

The cost of the project depends on its size and complexity. Most of our clients are billed on a lump sum basis. If you need a price quote up front, let us know and we’ll be happy to send you a proposal.

Besides earthwork estimates, what other services are offered by SDS?

We can do quantity take-offs for clearing, sanitary, storm, erosion controls, paving, and curb & gutter just to name a few. We can also supply you with a budget cost estimate.
